City Tech’s Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Technology and Bachelor of Architecture degree programs provide a solid, integrated foundation covering the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in architecture and related fields, including design, construction materials and assemblies, architectural history, mechanical and structural systems, site planning, building information modeling (BIM), codes, and professional practice. Our department is known for its range of technically focused electives, which give students the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in specific areas such as building performance analysis and sustainable design, computation and digital fabrication, existing building technologies, construction detailing and materials, digital representation, acoustics and lighting. The program’s focus on current and emerging technologies provides excellent preparation for immediate employment and career advancement.

As a supplement to this broad-based curriculum, students interested in a specialization may choose to enroll in an optional concentration. Each optional concentration allows students to meet their architecture elective requirements by choosing a designated set of elective courses in a defined area of specialization. The following concentrations are aligned with skills and knowledge that are in demand by today’s employers in architectural and related fields.
Students acquire a foundation in state-of-the-art technology and its application to address complex problems in building science and environmental performance. Potential career paths include energy modeling, detailing and materials specialist roles in design or engineering firms, integrated architectural design, and technical consultancy involving building science, commercial, or home energy auditing.
The concentration introduces traditional and advanced materials alongside additive and subtractive fabrication workflows and product development. Graduates are prepared to work for architects, engineers, construction firms, suppliers, and fabricators, including facade specialists and design-build groups.
Coursework also addresses preservation law, contemporary design in historic context, architectural history, documentation, and research. Potential careers include preservation and conservation consulting, material testing, hands-on conservation, CRM firms, government planning departments, historic site management, and façade inspections.
The CUNY BA degree is another option for individualized, interdisciplinary study. Possible individualized tracks might include project delivery, interior design, landscape, architectural history and theory, business and entrepreneurship, or urban and community planning, policy, and advocacy.
